TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team concluded its home schedule with a 2-0 loss to Georgia Sunday afternoon at the UA Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs found the net twice in the first half and held on to earn the three points on the road. After the day, the Crimson Tide move to 9-7-2 overall and 4-5-1 in Southeastern Conference play while the Bulldogs improve to 8-9-1 overall and 6-3-1 in SEC play.
"Well unfortunately that was a familiar scenario," head coach Todd Bramble said. "Once again they made the most of their chances. We were unable to capitalize on ours. That was the deciding factor of the game."
Georgia only got off five shots in the first half but took advantage of them by burying two in the first 20 minutes. Megan Tomlinson started the scoring in the 11th minute off a Carrie Patterson pass. Tomlinson recorded her first of the season on an open goal from eight yards out.
Patterson was then on the scoring end in the 21st minute when Tomlinson assisted from 10-yards out. Patterson took the pass and finished far post off a one-touch shot.
Georgia out-shot the Crimson Tide 14-10, using a 9-5 effort in the second half to take the advantage. Patterson led the Bulldogs with four shots, putting three on frame. Alabama sophomore forward Victoria Frederick tallied three shots and put two on goal. Both Kara Gudmens and Michelle Betos finished the day with four saves.
Alabama concluded its home slate with a 7-3 record. The Crimson Tide posted six straight shutouts and totaled seven at the friendly confines of the UA Soccer Complex.
"I am really happy with all the fan support we have gotten this year," Bramble said. "The fans have come out and especially on a day like today when we honored our seniors it makes me feel real good about the community and the city of Tuscaloosa."
Nine seniors played their final match at home on Sunday. Alex Butera, Kailey Corken, Jessica Deegan, Kara Gudmens, Cara Kelly, Karen Lansden, Callie Pike, Colleen Posey and Jamie Zimmerman were recognized before kickoff. The nine players have combined to play 514 games for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama will conclude its regular season on the road against rival Auburn. The Crimson Tide will head to the plains on Friday, Oct. 31 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The rivalry match could dictate the postseason chances for Alabama.
