Crimson Tide Women’s Cross Country Win, Men Third in 2019 Season Opener

Alabama women secure the win, while the men notch four top-25 finishes at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Saturday
MEMPHIS, TENN. – The Crimson Tide women's and men's cross country teams opened the 2019 season with a victory and third place finish under the lights at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic at Christian Brothers University on Saturday night.
WOMEN'S 5,000 METERS TEAM RESULTS
- 1. Alabama (47)
- 2. Ole Miss (58)
- 3. Middle Tennessee State (63)

ALABAMA INDIVIDUAL WOMEN'S RESULTS
- The women finished first overall in the 5K team standings with seven finishing within the top-20 individually
- Freshman newcomer Allison Wilson led the way, finishing fourth at a 5K time of 17:52.68 after running with the top pack for most of the race
- Rising senior Rebecca Buteau placed fifth with a time of 17:53:14
- Rounding out the top-20: sophomore Megan Patton (11th, 18:16.43), seniors Haley Wright (12th, 18:23.34), and Brittany Tolson (18th, 18:38.86) and freshman Jami Reed (15th, 18:35.73) and Amaris Tyynisma (17th, 18:38.55)
- Senior Alexa Cruz (33rd, 19:10.50), juniors Shannon Marsh (52nd, 19:47.40) and Hannah Howard (54th, 19:49.23) and sophomores Riley Schelp (29th, 18:59.08), Lauren Brackin (38th, 19:18.82) and Leahrose Mami (40th, 19:22.95) round out the women's lineup

ALABAMA INDIVIDUAL MEN'S RESULTS
- The men finished third overall in the four-mile team standings with just seven runners, four of whom finished within the top-25 individually
- Tide top finisher for the men freshman Jacob Wiggers (13th, 20:48.14)
- Following Wiggers was fellow freshmen Grady Shiflet (17th, 21:02.23), Nick Ceci (22nd, 21:22.39) and Rich Saenz (23rd, 21:23.87)
- In the top-60 finishers to help Alabama to a third-place finish juniors were Scott Platek (35th, 21:35.55), Paul Selden (46th, 21:57.43) and freshman Alex Mielke (60th, 22:41.01)

Alabama will make the short trip to Montevallo, Ala., for the Falcon Classic on Saturday, Sept. 7.
