Gray Takes Overall Series on Day Three of Baseball’s Fall World Series

Gray came away with a 5-4 mark on Friday to complete the 11-6 overall win in the Crimson Tide’s extended game
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Gray side clinched Alabama baseball's Fall World Series title over Crimson with its 5-4 result on Friday. The effort pushed the three-day total to 11-6 in favor of Gray across three seven-inning games at Sewell-Thomas Stadium this week.
Gray started the scoring early, reaching on an error and drawing a walk to set up sophomore Sam Praytor in the bottom of the first. With the runners going, Praytor slapped an RBI-single to right to score one and move the other runner to third. Following a passed ball that moved Praytor to second, senior Keith Holcombe ripped one through the right side to score two and give Gray the 3-0 advantage.
The Crimson squad answered back in the top of the fourth when senior Joe Breaux and redshirt junior Gene Wood started the frame with back-to-back singles. After a deep flyout to right moved Breaux over to third, junior John Trousdale brought him home with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Gray countered with a run in each of the next two frames to go up 5-1, after five innings of play. The Crimson side put up a fight in the seventh and final inning, scoring three to make it a 5-4 contest, but a groundout ended the rally and the fall season for Alabama baseball.
With the conclusion of fall practice, Alabama will turn its focus to the 2019 campaign. The Crimson Tide opens its regular season with a three-game series against Presbyterian on Feb. 15-17 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
