FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Alabama soccer team continues to impress on Friday nights as the Crimson Tide went on the road and defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 3-1 at Razorback Field. Alabama used goals from three different players to earn its fifth straight Friday night win to improve to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play.
"I am really happy with how we fought back tonight," head coach Todd Bramble said. "We came out in the second half composed and played with a lot of poise. We did a great job working our way back into the game. We used the momentum and took control in the second half."
After Arkansas took the early lead just five minutes into the contest, Alabama showed resolve by scoring three unanswered goals to end the night with a key SEC Western Division victory. Lindsay Patterson netted her sixth goal on the season for the Razorbacks when she found net off a Lauren Hallauer pass.
All three goals came in the second half and in a span of nine minutes for Alabama. Sophomore midfielder Rosaly Petriello got the Tide on the board with a penalty kick in 53rd minute. The penalty conversion was the first on the season for the Tide and it also marked the first goal on the year for Petriello.
Senior Kailey Corken then added on to her team-leading goal total by finding the net in the 61st minute for the game-winner. Corken took full advantage of a Brooke Rogers pass by handing the Tide the victory and tallying her sixth goal on the year.
Rogers then added the insurance one minute later. The sophomore who has been brilliant off the bench during SEC play for the Tide recorded her second goal of the season off a Victoria Frederick assist.
Arkansas out-shot Alabama 15-11 on the night. Kelly O'Connor paced the Razorbacks with five shots while Corken led the Tide with three. Alabama junior goalkeeper Kara Gudmens made nine saves to earn her seventh win on the season. Britini Williams made three stops in the losing effort.
Alabama will conclude its weekend against No. 19 ranked LSU on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex. The Crimson Tide will then return home for two matches. Alabama will face South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. and then take on Florida at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 19. Both matches will be played at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
