A true freshman, Wes Henderson will likely backup both Zac Welch and Matt Bentley at first base. Henderson is likely headed for a redshirt year with the Crimson Tide.
SUMMER (2004):
- Played this summer of the Oxford Yellow Jackets summer team for coach David Hill
- Henderson led the team with a .545 batting average and added five home runs and 22 RBI
- Henderson was a four-year starter at Oxford High School for coach Todd Mixon
- During his four-year career, Henderson batted .441 with 36 home runs and 154 RBI for the Yellow Jackets
- Named to the Birmingham News and Alabama Sports Writer’s Association All-State team for three consecutive years (2002-04)
- He was also a three-time All-Calhoun County selection by The Anniston Star in 2002, 2003 and 2004
- As a prep senior, he batted .456 with nine home runs and 40 RBI. He also walked 47 times
- Named to the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Top 100 prospects in 2002 and 2003
- Played in the ABCA Baseball Classic at Birmingham Southern following his junior season
- As a junior, Henderson batted .451 with a career-best 13 home runs and 43 RBI
- The 13 home runs were the most by any Class 5A player in the state in 2003
- Named to the Anniston Star’s 2003 All-Area Diamond Dazzlers
- Played for Team Alabama in 2003 and played against the USA Junior National Olympic team that finished runner-up in the junior Pan Am Games
- Also played for the Bama Bombers at the 2003 World Wooden Bat Association Tournament in Jupiter, Florida
- Participated in the 2003 Team One Showcase at Houston, Texas and was named on the Top 25 prospects at the showcase
- As a sophomore, he batted .454 with 10 home runs and a career-high 46 RBI
- Henderson won Oxford High School’s Big Stick Award and was the Offensive Player of the Year in 2002
- He was Most Valuable Player of the Calhoun County Tournament in 2003, leading Oxford to the championship
