
Alabama Track and Field Prepares for Elite Competitions across the Country

The Crimson Tide will compete at the Texas Relays and Florida Relays in addition to having representation on the west coast at both the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams are set to compete in four meets spanning across three time zones, in what will be the busiest weekend of the Crimson Tide's regular season.
The weekend will primarily feature representation at one of the most elite, regular-season meets in the country, the Texas Relays, as well as a distance contingent at the Florida Relays. Alabama will also be racing on the west coast, as Jacob Wiggers will be competing at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, Calif., followed by Victor Kiprop at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
The Crimson Tide will begin action in Austin, Texas, at 11 a.m. CT, on Thursday morning, in the women's hammer throw featuring the Alabama duo of Samantha Kunza and Chelsea Igberaese. Wiggers will follow suit at 12:45 p.m. in the 10,000-meter run at the Mile Fanelli Track Classic.
The Tide will round out Thursday's competition in the men's 400-meter hurdle prelims (5 p.m. | Chris Robinson, Clayton Elder) at the Texas Relays, followed by the 5:15 p.m. women's javelin throw featuring Hailey Poole.
Texas Relays | Meet Central
- Alabama will begin in the women's hammer throw, Thursday morning, starting at 11 a.m. CT, followed by a 5 p.m. start on the track in the men's 400-meter hurdles prelims. The Tide will close out the first day at 5:15 p.m. in the women's javelin.
- The women are traveling 10 athletes to Austin, Texas, while the men's travel list is 11 strong
- Austin, Texas, will also serve as the host city for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 7-10
Florida Relays | Meet Central
- Alabama will open the first day of competition at 10:55 a.m. CT Friday morning (March 31) in the men's 4x800-meter relay
- The Tide's travel list will feature five women along with 17 men in the Sunshine State
Stanford Invitational
- Over in California, Victor Kiprop will run in the 10,000-meter run at 11:44 p.m. CT Friday night
Mike Fanelli Track Classic
- Jacob Wiggers will race at 10:45 a.m. CT Thursday morning, also in the 10,000-meter run in San Francisco
Last Time Out
- Alabama is coming off its opening weekend for the outdoor season, in a meet that featured four event-wins and 20 top-10 finishes at the Bulldog Relays
- DeMarco Lemons started the meet victorious in the discus throw after launching a mark of 54.07 meters (177'4") on his final attempt to secure the win by over a foot
- Milan Fields, Amari Brown, Na'Taja Ballard and Amara Obi ran away with the 4x100-meter relay, clocking 44.61 to win the event
- The 4x100-meter squad also competed individually in the 100-meter dash where they proceeded to all finish in the top six, as Brown won the event via a personal-best time of 11.30
- On the men's side, Jekovan Rhetta followed suit, also taking first in the 100-meter dash to secure the event sweep for the Crimson Tide behind a personal-best performance of his own of 10.19
