Alabama Track and Field Posts Strong Showing on Florida Relays Day Two

The Crimson Tide posted nine top-10 finishes on the day between the men’s and women’s teams
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Led by a runner-up finish in the women's 1,500-meter race, the Alabama track and field team had another strong day at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., on Friday.
Junior Esther Gitahi reeled in a second-place showing in the 1,500-meter race, crossing the line at 4:18.40, less than two-tenths of a second out of first, while senior Nicole Gardner was sixth (4:20.25) and senior Caroline Barlow was 12th (4:29.51). Gitahi's time ranks second in the nation coming into the weekend. It also ranks her sixth all-time at Alabama and is the fastest time from a UA runner since 1994.
Sophomores Tamara Clark and Daija Lampkin both finished in the top-15 of the 100 meters, with Clark taking sixth overall and fourth among collegiate runners with a time of 11.30, which ranks among the nation's top times coming into the weekend. Lampkin ran an 11.45 to take 15th.
Sophomore Samantha Zelden was fifth in the javelin, with a best effort of 162-11 (49.67m) on the day. Juniors Natassha McDonald and Takyera Roberson finished ninth and 12th, respectively in the 400 meters, with McDonald clocking a 52.87 and Roberson crossing the line at 53.06.
Junior Abigail Kwarteng cleared 5-09.25 (1.76m) in the women's collegiate invitational high jump, finishing with the second-best height of the competition.
On the men's side of the meet, senior Keitavious Walter took seventh overall and fourth among collegiate runners in the 100 meters with a time of 10.38.
Freshman Bobby Colantonio finished eighth in the hammer throw invitational with a toss of 218-10 (66.71m) on his next to last attempt. Colantonio was the only freshman in the invite field.
Senior Connor Ferrentino was eighth in the men's 1,500 meters, posting a 3:48.17. Senior Skyler Bowden was 14th in the 400 meters with a time 46.60.
