
Dismus Lokira, Caren Kiplagat Awarded SEC Weekly Honors

The announcement marks the second and third weekly recognition in the last two days for the Crimson Tide
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama cross country's individual title winners from the Southern Showcase, Dismus Lokira and Caren Kiplagat, were named the Men's and Women's Runner of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the Southeastern Conference.
The announcement comes a day after Kiplagat received Women's National Athlete of the Week recognition by the USTFCCCA, giving the Crimson Tide a total of three weekly awards following a dominant showing at its first of two meets competed at Huntsville, Ala., this fall.
Dismus Lokira – SEC Men's Runner of the Week
- First conference weekly honor of his sophomore cross country season, second of his career
- Won the men's 8k individual title at the Southern Showcase behind a course-record time of 23:11.08
- Led a Crimson Tide charge at the top as all five of UA's scoring runners finished in the top 12, spearheading a dominant, team-title defense that saw a 99-point margin between Alabama and the second-place team
Caren Kiplagat – SEC Women's Runner of the Week
- First conference weekly award of her career and second weekly honor in as many days
- Claimed the women's 5k individual title in her collegiate debut, making it the third consecutive year that an Alabama runner has won the 5k title at the Southern Showcase
- Traversed the course in only 16:18.76 – over 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher
