SEC Cross Country Championships on Tap for Alabama Friday

The Crimson Tide begin postseason competition with the conference meet this week
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's cross country teams begin postseason competition this week with the 2018 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships at the Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala., on Friday, Oct. 26. The women's 6,000-meter race begins at 9 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8,000-meter race at 10 a.m.
Alabama Entries
The Crimson Tide men will run seniors Alfred Chelanga and Connor Ferrentino, juniors Clay Austell, J.P. Brinyark, Elliott Miller and Oliver Rigg and sophomore Paul Selden.
Running for the Tide women will be senior Nicole Gardner, juniors Caroline Brooks, Rebecca Buteau, Esther Gitahi, Brittany Tolson, Haley Wright and McKenzie Yanek, sophomores Maddie Dearborn and Shannon Marsh and freshman Megan Patton.
Alabama at the SEC Championships
The Crimson Tide men have won three SEC team championships (1973, 2008, 2009) and 10 individual championships, the most recent by Vincent Kiprop in 2017. David Kimani (2000, 2001, 2002) is the Tide's lone three-time champion. The Alabama women won back-to-back SEC crowns in 1986 and 1987 and have won four individual SEC titles - Evelyn Adiru (1985, 1987), Carole Tremanier (1988) and Becki Wells (1993).
Next Meet
Alabama will run at the 2018 NCAA South Regional at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday, Nov. 9.
