Senior Victoria Barrett earns her 1,500th career kill
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama and Wake Forest battled for five sets Wednesday night in Foster Auditorium as part of the inaugural Showdown at the Net series between the SEC and ACC, with the Crimson Tide prevailing after a close 15-12 victory in the fifth.
Alabama (5-1) won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-18, before Wake Forest (2-4) evened things up with 25-23 and 28-26 decisions in the third and fourth. The Demon Deacons had to battle hard for those set wins against a resilient Crimson Tide squad that battled all the way from down 24-14 in the third with nine straight points to make it 24-23 before Wake Forest halted the comeback and won it on the next rally. In the fourth, Alabama again found itself facing set point, 24-17, and fought back to tie it at 24-24. The two teams traded back and forth until the Demon Deacons eventually won, 28-26, to force a fifth set.
The deciding frame was another close battle, with neither team able to take a lead larger than two points. Tied at 12-12, a kill from Maddie Snider gave the Tide the lead and back-to-back kills from Sophie Agee and Snider closed out the set, 15-12, and the match.
Senior transfer Victoria Barrett earned her 1,500th career kill in the match, entering the day 14 shy before finishing with a season-best 25 to put her current total at 1,511.
