Women’s Basketball Defeats Florida State 91-71 in Ballin in Boutwell

The Crimson Tide goes 91-71 in the first exhibition of the 2025-26 season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball claimed its first preseason win over Florida State, 91-71, on Thursday inside Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Ala.
12 student-athletes saw action during the exhibition with four players scoring in double-figures. Both Essence Cody and Jessica Timmons led the Crimson Tide with 16 points apiece as Karly Weathers (11) and Ace Austin (10) also recorded double digits. Cody and Weathers both grabbed seven rebounds, while Ta'Mia Scott collected six.
Sydney Bowles led Florida State with 21 points as Pania Davis earned a team-high nine rebounds.
Game Notes
- Jessica Timmons, Reychel Douglas and Naomi Jones all saw preseason action for the first time since redshirting during the 2024-25 season.
- Karly Weathers and Essence Cody led the team in rebounding with seven apiece.
- Alabama's post players, Jones, Lourdes Da Silva Costa and Cody, each blocked a shot.
- The Tide went 45.5 percent from both the floor (30-66) and deep (10-22), and 65.6 percent from the line (21-32)

How it Happened
- Florida State opened the game on an 8-0 run before Timmons opened the Tide's scoring with a jumper. (8-0)
- After a layup from Naomi Jones to tie the game at 11-11, Alabama took a nine-point lead into the final minutes of the first quarter. (22-13)
- The teams exchanged blows until late in the second quarter as UA still held its lead, ending the first half on a 7-0 run. (41-25)
- After the break, the Tide went on an 11-6 run to earn a 20-point lead midway through the third. (60-40)
- Lourdes Da Silva Costa led the team in the fourth quarter with seven points and a steal to aid in Alabama's 24-point frame. (91-71)
