TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A school record 1000 free performance from Leonardo Alcantara paced the No. 16/16 Alabama swimming and diving team in a loss to No. 1/2 Texas Friday.
In addition to Alcantara’s school-record setting swim, Emily Jones and Gaby Van Brunt helped lead the team with a pair of victories. Both swimmers were members of UA’s facility record and first-place 200 medley relay team (1:34.59) while Jones also won the 100 back (51.55) and Van Brunt won the 100 butterfly (52.92).

Head Coach Margo Geer Said
“It was good to welcome a team like Texas to our facility. They’re one of the best teams in the country so it’s great competition for us. There was a lot of excitement in the stands for our second home meet this fall. The crowd was awesome, and we were celebrating the Power of Pink, which is a great initiative as well. That gave us some really good energy.
"We had some really good swims and I’m excited for us to keep getting better. It was great seeing Leo set a school record this early in the year. This was only our second meet of the season and there were a lot of really good performances today. You could see the building and growth from what we did against Delta State a few weeks ago."
