Chris Robinson broke the Crimson Tide’s 400-meter hurdles record for the second time in three weeks, Tarsis Orogot clocked the second-fastest, 200-meter all conditions mark in collegiate history and Hillary Cheruiyot secured UA’s fifth-fastest time in the 5,000-meter run
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Already sitting on a school record performance from Mercy Chelangat in the early-morning hours, the Alabama track and field program tallied even more historical performances on the second day of its multi-meet weekend.
Lining up in his signature headband and crazy socks for the 200-meter dash, Tarsis Orogot would clock a sub-20-second time at the Tom Jones Memorial. The historic performance (19.60 (+2.9)) is now the second-fastest, 200-meter all conditions mark in collegiate history.
Later in the day, and for the second time in three weeks, Alabama's 400-meter hurdle school record (48.66) was broken by Chris Robinson. It is now the third-straight outing where Robinson has lowered his time in the event, having also clocked a then-PR on March 31 in the event's preliminary heat before clinching the victory – and initial school record.
Into the early, Saturday morning hours, Hillary Cheruiyot clocked 13:39.45 in the men's 5,000-meter run to not only set a new PR, but secure Alabama's fifth-fastest time in the event.
