Track and Field Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

The Crimson Tide women posted a 3.59 cumulative team grade point average while the men tallied a 3.33
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's team both earned All-Academic Team honors during the 2020 season the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced. The Crimson Tide men and women have combined to earn the team honor 22 times since 2003.
The Alabama women's team was among 264 programs to earn the team designation, as the Crimson Tide earned a 3.59 average GPA. For the UA men, they were among 199 programs to be honored for their academic excellence, with the men's squad holding an average 3.33 GPA.
Individually, the Tide totaled 11 on the 2020 USTFCCCA All-Academic list including Mercy Chelangat, Tamara Clark, Nickolette Dunbar, Esther Gitahi, Abigail Kwarteng, Daija Lampkin and Taylor Pickett for the women along with Santiago Basso, Bobby Colantonio Jr., Ryan Lipe and Jacob Spotswood from the men's team.
A trio of student-athletes earned both All-Academic and All-America honors this season, including Chelangat, Clark and Colantonio Jr.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25 and have met athletic standards. With the season cut short due to the coronavirus, the athletic standards were limited to the indoor season where student-athletes needed to finish the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event.
