
Alabama Track and Field Trio Claim CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Daija Lampkin, Samantha Zelden and Vincent Kiprop earned the honor and now move on to the Academic All-America ballot
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A trio of Alabama track and field student-athletes earned a place on the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV teams, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.
Juniors Daija Lampkin and Samantha Zelden were named to the women's squad, while graduate student Vincent Kiprop was tabbed for the men.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District distinction is the second-straight for Lampkin, while Zelden and Kiprop earn their first. With their selection, the trio advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting.
Lampkin, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors as a sophomore, was recently named 2020 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The junior carries a 4.0 GPA in public health and has accumulated four All-American honors.
Zelden earned her undergraduate degree this spring in human performance exercise science with a 4.0 GPA. She is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree and a three-year SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Kiprop, the 2019 SEC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned his undergraduate degree in public health and is now pursuing a graduate degree in health education and promotion with a 4.0 GPA. He is an All-American in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field and closed his cross country career with a fifth place finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Kiprop, Lampkin and Zelden bumped the Crimson Tide's CoSIDA Academic All-District IV total to 17 for 2019-20, joining Alba Cortina Pou (women's tennis), Landon Dickerson (football), Krystal Goodman (softball), Bailey Hemphill (softball), Daniel Kober (men's swimming and diving), Jordan Lewis (women's basketball), Nealy Martin (soccer), Alexey Nesterov (men's tennis), Alex Plavin (soccer), Kolby Robinson (baseball), Allie Surrency (women's swimming and diving), Kaylee Tow (softball), Zane Waddell (men's swimming and diving) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (football). Martin and Plavin went on to earn Academic All-America honors this fall.
