All nine NCAA Indoor Championship qualifiers, five women and four men earn recognition
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of nine Alabama Track and Field student-athletes were named NCAA Indoor All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.
Due to the unique circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 global health crisis and cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Indoor National Championships, the Division I Track & Field Executive Committee altered its criteria for All-America selection. For individual events, all student-athletes named on the startlist for the anticipated event were recognized as All-Americans for the 2020 indoor track & field season. There was also no distinction of First-Team, Second-Team or Honorable Mention.
The women's 4x400m relay team consisting of seniors D'Jai Baker, Natassha McDonald and Takyera Roberson, along with junior Tamara Clark will go down as 2020 Indoor All-Americans. The relay squad posted the top-time across the nation with a season-best 3:29.36. Clark also earned recognition in the 60m and 200m, marking 10 All-America certificates in her career. McDonald took home her fifth honor in the 400m. Sophomore Mercy Chelangat was recognized in the 5000m for the first in her Crimson Tide career.
On the men's side of the 2020 All-America list is a total of four student-athletes in four events. Sophomore Bobby Colantonio Jr. ranked second the men's weight throw after posting a program-best toss of 23.54m in the middle of the regular season. Three additional Crimson Tide men added All-America to their resume including senior Robert Dunning's (60m hurdles) for third recognition of his career, sophomore Christian Edwards' second (triple jump) and junior Isaac Odugbesan's (shot put) career first.
