The Crimson Tide moves up three spots in national fall rankings
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women rank No. 7 in the latest Boost Treadmills National Cross Country poll, which ranks programs currently competing during the fall season.
The Crimson Tide women have competed in two meets this season, capturing back-to-back individual crowns and finishing runner-up as a team on both occasions.
Alabama opened the 2020 season at the Commodore Classic (Sept. 19) where sophomore Jami Reed took home first, while leading the team to a trio of top-five finishes. Last time out, junior Mercy Chelangat paced the pack with a first-place individual finish at the Florida State Invitational (Oct. 2). Senior Esther Gitahi has also chipped in two top-10 finishes through two meets.
Alabama climbed up three sports from the inaugural national fall rankings, released on Sept. 25, where the Tide started at No. 10. Along with the SEC, other conferences competing in cross country this fall are the ACC, Big 12, Conference USA, Southern and Sun Belt.
The USTFCCCA isn't publishing national and regional cross country rankings this fall as many NCAA teams are sitting out the fall due to COVID-19. In absence of the coaches association poll, Boost Treadmills decided to fill the void, assembling a panel of retired and former coaches publish top-15 national rankings.
Up next, both the Alabama men's and women's squads prepare for the SEC Championships on Friday, Oct. 30 in Baton Rouge, La.
