Mercy Chelangat Tabbed SEC Women’s Runner of the Week

Chelangat won the individual 5k title at the Florida State Invitational last week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior Mercy Chelangat was named Southeastern Conference Women's Runner of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
SEC Women's Runner of the Week
- The junior won the Florida State Invitational, posting a career best time of 16:50.3, and led the Crimson Tide to a second-place finish in the team standings.
- Not only did she clock a new personal-best, but also posted the second fastest 5k (cross country) time in program history.
- Saturday's winning time of 16:50.3 over the 5k course, is a 2020 conference best.
- Chelangat claimed her first cross country career individual title by five seconds over sophomore teammate Jami Reed (16:55.30), who was a SEC Women's Runner of the Week two weeks ago after winning the individual women's 6K title at the Commodore Classic (Sept. 19).
