Alexa Guarachi and doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk picked up the win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4
PARIS – University of Alabama women's tennis alum Alexa Guarachi advanced to the second round of the French Open for the first time in her career Thursday after picking up a first-round win with doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk. Â
Seeded 14th heading into this year's Open, Guarachi and Krawczyk combined to earn a 6-3, 6-4 win to take down the Australian duo of Storm Sanders and Ellen Perez in the opening round at Roland-Garros Stadium. It marked Guarachi's and Krawczyk's second win in the past month over Sanders and Perez, previously knocking them off in the championship final of the Istanbul Open, 6-1, 6-3. Guarachi and Krawczyk return to action Friday morning at 7:45 a.m. CT against Lauren Davis and Sabrina Santamaria.Â
Guarachi and Krawczyk arrived at the tournament fresh off a strong September on the WTA circuit, taking home the title at the Istanbul Open and advancing to the championship final at the Internationaux de Strasbourg. Â
This marked Guarachi's third time advancing past the first round in a Grand Slam tournament, having advanced to the second round of the Australian Open earlier this year and making a run to the third round of the 2019 U.S. Open. She is currently ranked No. 45 in the world in the Women's Tennis Association doubles rankings. Â
