Alabama Track and Field Standouts Named to USA Roster

Seniors Dunning and McEwen and alums Burks, Ferguson and Haugh will represent Team USA in Minsk, Belarus
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Two current and three former Alabama track & field standouts will compete for the United States in the historic head-to-head dual meet between the United States and Europe, Sept. 9-10, at the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium in Minsk, Belarus.
Seniors Robert Dunning and Shelby McEwen along with Crimson Tide alums Quanesha Burks, Kord Ferguson and Daniel Haugh will compete in the first track and field dual meet between the United States and Europe.
"It means a lot to compete on this stage even though it's been a long season I can say these are the most important meets, and I'm looking forward to it," McEwen said. "I am especially excited to be able to showcase my talents in a different country against some great competition."
ABOUT THE MATCH EUROPE VS. USA - MINSK 2019
- The best of Europe's athletes will take on Team USA in the last major athletics competition before this year's IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
- 139 athletes will take part, including 28 Olympians, eight Olympic medalists and 11 world championship medalists have been selected to represent Team USA in the Belarus capital.
- The two-day meeting with 37 track and field events will be broadcast live, Sept. 9-10, on NBCSN and NBC Sports Gold from 11:00 a.m. CT to 2:00 p.m. CT.
ROBERT DUNNING
Men's 110-Meter Hurdles
- Dunning earned All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.
- Placed ninth in the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles after running a 13.67 at the 2019 U.S. Championships.
SHELBY MCEWEN
Men's High Jump
- McEwen is the defending NCAA Indoor High Jump Champion.
- Most recently, the senior took second in the high jump at the 2019 United States Championships with a personal best of 7-6 ½ (2.30m).
QUANESHA BURKS
Women's Long Jump
- The Hartselle, Ala, native was a two-time NCAA Champion and 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American.
- She represented the USA at the 2015 Pan American Games and the 2017 World Championships in Athletics.
- Burks is one of the most-decorated student-athletes in Alabama track & field history, as she holds the school indoor and outdoor long jump records as well as the top-10 jumps in Alabama history, both indoors and outdoors.
KORD FERGUSON
Men's Discuss
- The 2019 graduate finished his collegiate career at Alabama (2016-19) with multiple First Team All-American and SEC Champion honors in discus.
- Ferguson recently took third place in the discus at the 2019 U.S. Championships with a personal-best throw of 207-6 (63.25m).
DANIEL HAUGH
Men's Hammer
- The 2018 Alabama graduate earned first-team All-America honors in the hammer at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
- Haugh holds the school record in hammer throw after a toss of 241-2 (73.50m) at the LSU Invitational, which bettered the old record by seven feet.
