Alabama Cross Country’s Allison Wilson Named SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week

Wilson led the Crimson Tide women to a first-place finish at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama freshman cross country runner Allison Wilson was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Freshman of the Week after posting the top finish by a freshman last weekend at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
SEC WOMEN'S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS
- Wilson, who finished No. 1 for Alabama in the 5k, placed fourth out of 141 participants with a time of 17:52.68 at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Aug. 31.
- The freshman was one of seven Alabama runners to finish in the top-20 at the meet, leading the Crimson Tide to a first-place finish with 47 points, 11 ahead of second-place No. 15 Ole Miss who scored 58 points.
- The Montgomery, Texas, native was the highest placing freshman at the meet, and the second-highest finisher from the SEC, following Ole Miss sophomore Courtney Hopkins, who finished third.
- Wilson came to the Capstone following a heralded prep career at Montgomery High School where she was a three-time Texas individual all-state champion. She also placed 12th at the 2018 Footlocker Nationals.

Alabama will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 7, when the Crimson Tide makes the short trip to Montevallo, Ala., for the Falcon Classic.
