CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Alabama Rowing concludes its fall racing slate this weekend at the annual Head of the Hooch Regatta on Nov. 5-6 in Chattanooga, Tenn. on the Tennessee River.
The Crimson Tide will have 15 crews competing in five races, including four on Saturday and one on Sunday. Alabama opens the weekend with three entries in the Women's Championship 8+ at 11:56 a.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 5. A pair of boats will compete in the Women's College & Club Novice 8+ at 1 p.m. CT with two crews also competing in the Women's 2x at 2:58 p.m. CT and the Women's Championship 4+ at 4 p.m. CT to round out Saturday's races. The Tide wraps up the weekend with six entries in the Women's Open 8+ on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 12:06 p.m. CT.
"We've had performances in the past that were fast enough to medal and I'd like to see a few of our crews medal this year," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "The course itself is pretty forgiving but if it gets windy it can get pretty nasty pretty quick."
This will be Alabama's second race on the Tennessee River this season, having previously competed there at the Chattanooga Head Race to open the season on Oct. 8. The course for that race was shortened due to unfavorable weather conditions, but Alabama persevered and won all five of its races with a total of eight top-three finishes. This weekend's 5,000-meter course goes along the Tennessee River and finishes at Ross's Landing Park.
This weekend will conclude the Crimson Tide's fall racing schedule. Alabama will resume competition in the spring, starting on Saturday, Feb. 25 against Eastern Michigan in Tuscaloosa. The race will be the first of two head-to-head races on the Black Warrior River, with the second coming on March 25 against Dayton.
