BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Alabama women's golf team is 41-over 617, following a 19-over 307 during the second round at the par-72, 6,468-yard Concession Golf Club and are in a tie for 13th at the close of play Saturday. Â
The afternoon session of the second round was suspended for the day at 7:25 p.m. (EDT) with 12 teams still on the course and as many as six holes left to play. Southern California is currently in first place at 14-over, followed by Duke in second at 23-over, Tennessee third at 27-over and Baylor fourth at 28-over.
Alabama junior Emma Talley turned in another solid performance and enters play on Sunday in second place individually at 1-under 143. She trails USC's Annie Park by one shot with Park through 11 holes of her second round.
"Emma is definitely holding us in there with a chance to make the cut and get into the top eight, all the things you want to accomplish," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "The thing she is doing is minimizing her mistakes, she is not making big numbers -- her highest score was a bogey. She is also giving herself some chances on the greens and making a couple of birdies. Emma is doing everything you have to do to play this golf course well. We just need the rest of our players to learn from that."
Talley, from Princeton, Ky., come out fast with a birdie on the first hole of her second round. She played the front nine at even-par 36. After bogeying back-to-back holes, the junior bounced back by making birdie on the par-3 sixth, a hole she bogeyed in round one. Through the morning tee times, Talley recorded the only birdie on No. 6.
"Yesterday I came out really strong and that was very important for me," Emma Talley said after round two. "I just know that pars were going to be really good out here and keeping it away from the big numbers was going to be key. I got into trouble out here a few times today, but I got a bogey out of it and that was really important. I've been pretty consistent so far, and I'm hitting and putting the ball pretty well. The course is in great shape and it is really difficult."
Cammie Gray put together a back nine of 1-under 35 to total a second-round 4-over 76. She finished out her round with birdies on two of her last three holes, including 16, which played the most difficult on the day, and 17. Through 36 holes, Gray is 14-over 158.
Freshman Lakareber Abe's second round 80 was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 17th, one of only nine eagles carded in the tournament. Abe is 12-over 156 for the tournament.
Mia Landegren shaved 10 strokes off her first round total to shoot a 6-over 78 on day two. Junior Janie Jackson's 9-over 81 was dropped from the Crimson Tide's second day team total.
The Crimson Tide will tee off the third round Sunday morning at a time to be determined. Following the conclusion of the third round, the field will be trimmed to the top-15 teams and the top nine individuals, who will play 18 holes on Monday to determine seeding for match play and the individual NCAA champion.
