TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Fresh off an opportunistic result against No. 24 Tennessee, the Alabama soccer team (8-7-2, 3-5-1 SEC) will now hit the road for the last time during the regular season. Alabama will once again be featured in front of a televised audience as it will face Georgia (12-4-1, 6-2-1 SEC) on CSS. Kickoff is slated for Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. ET, at the Turner Soccer Stadium.
The Crimson Tide opened the week with a 1-0 victory over the nationally ranked Lady Vols. Freshman Pia Rijsdijk buried a loose ball from 18 yards out in the 14th minute to propel Alabama to a key conference win. The goal was her fourth on the season as the Netherlands native leads the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists.
Senior goalkeeper Justine Bernier led by a stingy defensive effort, blanked Tennessee for her sixth clean sheet on the season. The shutout was the 20th of her career which extends her school record. The six shutouts in a single season also mark the second most in program history.
The win over a ranked opponent is the second on the season for Alabama which is a program first for the Crimson Tide. The win over Tennessee also is the first for Alabama over its traditional rival since 1998.
Alabama will close out its regular season slate when it hosts division rival Auburn. The two teams will meet on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.
