CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Alabama's Jennifer Kirby defeated Kristen Park 6&4 to advance to the semifinal round of the 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur on Friday at Charlotte Country Club.
The No. 25 seeded Kirby will play No. 12 seed Danielle Kang on Saturday, with tee time set for 9 a.m. (CDT). Kang, who attends Pepperdine University, is coming off a victory at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship three weeks ago at Pinehurst No. 2. She defeated No. 36 seed Sydnee Michaels in 19 holes on Friday for the right to play Kirby.
Kirby's round against the 17th-seeded Park featured five birdies and no bogeys, bookended by birdies at the first and last hole (14th) of the match. Kirby jumped out to a quick 3 up lead after the first five holes, sustained the margin for the next six holes, and then ended the match by winning holes No. 12, 13 and 14.
The Golf Channel will have tape delayed coverage of Saturday's semifinal round from 2-4 p.m. (CDT).
