TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Swimming and Diving team had a trio of athletes earn Southeastern Conference honors the league office announced today.
"We had a great weekend over in Louisiana and these awards are a recognition of that fact," Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. "Several of the performances we saw this weekend were great for right now, but more importantly, they point to even better things down the road."
Junior Agustina de Giovanni was named the SEC Female Swimmer of the week for the second time this season after a three-win performance at LSU this weekend. Two of her wins, the 200 breaststroke and 500 freestyle, came within minutes of each other in one of the meet's toughest doubles.
Junior Aaron Fleshner earned SEC Male Diver of the Week honors after winning three boards this weekend and posting season-best scores off both the one and three-meter board. A three-time diver of the week honoree last season, Fleshner's winning three-meter score at LSU was nearly 40 points better than his nearest competitor.
Rookie Suzanne Schwee posted the league's fastest 200 butterfly time at LSU last Friday on her way to becoming the SEC Female Freshman of the Week. Schwee's 1:59.94 made her the second fastest 200 flyer in school history and the first swimmer to under the two-minute mark the SEC this season.
Alabama returns to action Nov. 21-22 in Tuscaloosa against Auburn. The two teams will swim three sessions over the two days, with session one starting at noon on Friday, followed by the second session at 6 p.m. Saturday's session will go off at 10 a.m.
