
Bama's Joseph Sykora Wins State Match Play

University of Alabama golfer Joseph Sykora won the State of Alabama Match Play Championship this past weekend.
Sykora, who will be a sophomore on the Crimson Tide team, will be competing in next week’s United States Amateur along with three of his Alabama teammates, Clint Provost (a senior this past season), Mark Harrell and Matthew Swan.
The Daphne native defeated Mobile’s Derek Ryder on the second extra hole of the final. Playing at Steelwood in Loxley, about 20 minutes from his hometown, Sykora beat Mac Duke of Loxley 6 and 4, John Wright of Gulf Shores 2 and 1, Richard Jeffers of Mobile 4 and 3, Patton Kizzire of Tuscaloosa 1 up and former Tide golfer Steve Hudson 7 and 5 to advance to the final.
