
Tide Golfers Head to Carpet Capital for Fall Finale

The fall season comes to a close this weekend for the No. 21 ranked University of Alabama golf team. Alabama travels to Rocky Face, Ga., where it will compete Friday through Sunday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. It's a 54-hole tournament hosted by No. 3 Georgia Tech.
The field Alabama will face at The Farm, a par 72 layout, includes two of the nation's top ten ranked players and nine Top 25 ranked teams. The field includes No. 1 ranked Georgia, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Florida, No. 7 Duke, No. 14 Georgia State, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 20 East Tennessee State, and No. 22 Auburn as well as Augusta State, Clemson, Georgia Southern, N.C. State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt. Georgia Tech juniors Roberto Castro and Kevin Larsen rank No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, in the latest Sagarin golf ratings. Castro is a returning All-American.
Georgia is the tournament's defending champion.
Alabama's five golfers who will compete for team and individual titles are Gator Todd (71.33), Mark Harrell (72.33), Matthew Swan (72.42), Joseph Sykora (74.08), and, making his first fall 2005 appearance, Stewart Whitt.

This tournament marks the fifth and final fall event for Alabama. The Tide has finished among the top five in three of its four tournaments this fall, including second at Tennessee's Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions. Alabama's last appearance was October 15-16 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn., where if finished fifth of 15 teams.
Following this weekend's tournament, Alabama puts up its clubs for a winter break then picks the season back up February 5-7, 2006 at Sawgrass Country Club at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
