The Crimson Tide softball team used a combination of pitching and offense to go 2-0 in its first fall tournament, defeating Wallace-Dothan CC 11-0 (5) and Wallace-Hanceville CC 9-0 (5).
Alabama pitchers allowed three base runners in both games while recording 18 strikeouts on the day. Sophomore Chrissy Owens tossed a two-hit shutout while striking out seven batters in Bama's first victory of the day over Wallace-Dothan.
The Tide put seven runs on the board in the first inning highlighted by a three-run home run from sophomore first baseman Dani White.
Senior Stephanie VanBrakle tossed a one-hit shutout in the nightcap, striking out 11 Wallace-Hanceville batters.
Alabama scored five runs in the fourth and backed that up with four runs in the fifth. Woods was at it again hitting two more home runs while driving in five runs.
Perhaps the big story of the day was the Alabama freshmen combining to go 14-for-24 (.583).
"I thought all the freshmen came in and did a good job," said head coach Patrick Murphy. "Everybody else will get a shot next week if they didn't get one today."
The Crimson Tide will close out its fall competition next weekend with Fall Brawl II. The team will host Jefferson State CC and Chipola JC.
