Crimson Tide freshman Julia Hicks led Alabama to a fourth place finish at the Belmont Opener Cross Country Invitational, taking fourth place with a 11:06.38 over the two-mile course.
It marks the second year in a row that Alabama has opened its season at the Belmont, which was contested over a course in Nashville’s Percy Warner Park.
It was an all-rookie showing for the Tide, with the five scoring finishers belonging to the freshman class. Hicks was joined in the individual top-25 by fellow rookies Tara Enebak, Elizabeth Wancowicz and Megan Carnes in 10th, 23rd and 25th place respectively. Enebak finished at 11:18.69, Wancowicz with a 11:37.16 while Carnes posted a 11:37.71. Freshman Jill Bryant rounded out the scoring for Alabama, finishing 65th with a 12:29.93.
Vanderbilt won the women’s meet with a low score of 42 points. Alabama posted 110 points in taking fourth. The Crimson Tide returns to action in two weeks at the Crimson Classic Friday, September 19 at the Harry Pritchett Golf Course.
