TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-Two University of Alabama senior volleyball players will trade in their uniforms for a cap and gown this weekend as they participate in Saturday’s commencement ceremony. Bridget Fuentez and Brigitte Slack will be among the graduates in Coleman Coliseum to receive their diploma.
Fuentez, a native of Tomball, Texas, was a four-year letterwinner for the Tide and is regarded as one of the most complete players to every wear an Alabama jersey. The outside hitter had a record setting season this year as she recorded her 1,000 kill and 1,000 dig and helped lead Alabama to its third NCAA tournament appearance in the program’s history. Fuentez concluded her volleyball career at the Capstone in the Top 10 in the all-time career statistics in kills, attempts and digs. The two-time All-SEC honoree will graduate with a 3.607 overall GPA in Marketing. Fuentez plans to play in the professional volleyball circuit after graduation.
Slack, a setter from Ft. Wayne, Ind., ended her illustrious career at the Capstone as the Tide’s all-time leader in assists. The former Freshman All-SEC honoree broke the all-time assists record in the third match of her senior season and ended her career with over 5,000 assists. As a four-year starter, Slack was in charge of running the Crimson Tide’s offense all four seasons. Slack played in every game for the Tide this season and helped lead Alabama to its third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. Slack will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Science majoring in Family Studies.
