TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama volleyball team is one of 64 teams to make up the 2007 NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament bracket and will vie for a spot at the final spot in Sacramento, Calif.
“Starting tonight everyone in the country is 0-0,” said Alabama head coach Judy Green. “I am very happy for our team that we are getting another opportunity to play volleyball. We have gotten better this week in practice and we are very thankful that we get another chance to play together as a team.”
The Crimson Tide is making its third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament, starting with the program’s inaugural visit in 2005. Alabama, 0-2 in tournament play, earned a spot in the bottom half of the Stanford Regional and is paired up with Clemson, Alabama A&M and No. 9 UCLA.
The Tide is slated to play host Clemson Friday night at 7:00 p.m. ET in the Jervey Athletic Center in the first round, following the UCLA/Alabama A&M match beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET. The winners of the two matches will advance to Saturday, Dec. 1 and square off at 7:00 p.m. ET for a chance to advance to the Sweet 16 in Stanford, Calif.
“At this point in time it is anyone’s ball game,” said Green. “Clemson has played very good volleyball all season long. I know they are good and I know they are well coached. For our team, I don’t think it matters who we play as long as we get another chance.”
Alabama is one of five teams to represent the Southeastern Conference in the 2007 NCAA tournament. The Tide is joined by SEC champion Florida, LSU, Kentucky and Ole Miss.
