TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama redshirt freshman middle blocker Krystal Rivers (Birmingham, Ala.) was named the Southeastern Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. It was Rivers' second SEC Freshman of the Week selection and third for the Tide this season.
In two matches this past weekend, Rivers averaged 4.57 kills per set with a .518 hitting percentage, leading the Crimson Tide to wins over Texas A&M (3-0) and LSU (3-1). Rivers paced the Crimson Tide with 32 kills and committed just three errors on 56 total attempts in the two matches. She also added seven blocks, one solo and six assisted, to average 1.00 blocks per set, and had 36 points to average 5.14 points per set.
In the three-set win over Texas A&M, Rivers had a match-high 16 kills to average 5.33 kills per set. Her 16 kills came on 20 swings with just one hitting error for a career-high .750 hitting percentage. She also added four assisted blocks against the Aggies. In the four-set win over LSU, she had 16 kills (4.00 kps) with a .389 hitting percentage, and added a solo and two assisted blocks.
This season she leads the Crimson Tide with 3.62 kills per set to rank sixth in the SEC. She also ranks sixth in the conference with 4.29 points per set. Her .443 hitting percentage this season is fourth in the SEC and 11th in the country.
Missouri's Molly Kreklow was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Auburn's Sarah Wroblicky was the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
