The University of Alabama women’s volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the SEC’s Western Division in a preseason vote of the league’s coaches.  Florida, which has won 14 straight SEC titles, was chosen as the overall league champion as well as the Eastern Division Champion.

The Tide received 34 points and finished behind LSU and Arkansas, who tied for first in the West with 50 points each.  Mississippi State was chosen fourth in the division, followed by Auburn and Ole Miss.

The Tide was chosen to finish second in the West last season but exceeded the prediction by capturing a share of the SEC Western Division championship.

Alabama opens the 2005 season Friday night in Lawrence, Kansas at 7:00 p.m. against the Jayhawks.
