TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - As part of the 18-match Southeastern Conference television package, the University of Alabama volleyball team will make two appearances on television during the 2013 season. Both matches featuring the Crimson Tide will be televised Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS).
The SEC, in conjunction with ESPNU, SportSouth and Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), released the 2013 SEC volleyball television schedule on Wednesday. Combined, the networks will broadcast 18 live SEC volleyball matches this upcoming season.
The first televised match for the Tide will be on Nov. 17, when Alabama travels to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the SEC preseason favorite and preseason No. 9-ranked Florida Gators. The Sunday afternoon match will begin at 1 p.m. CT, on CSS/CST. On the following Sunday (Nov. 24), the Tide's home match against Tennessee will be covered by CSS/CST. The match against the Lady Vols will be the final home match of the season for Alabama and will start at 1 p.m. CT, at Foster Auditorium.
The ESPNU slate starts Oct. 2, with a Wednesday night matchup featuring Missouri at Arkansas. SportSouth's first broadcast will be an Oct. 11 contest between Kentucky and Florida, while CSS begins its coverage of matches on Oct. 13, with Georgia at Florida.
The SportSouth footprint includes FS Southwest and FS Midwest. Areas covered by Comcast will see matches on CSS, while areas covered by Cox (LSU, Arkansas and Florida) will see matches on CST. Every ESPNU match will be available on WatchESPN and SportSouth and CSS matches will also be made available on ESPN3.
ESPNU reaches over 73 million homes. SportSouth telecasts will be distributed to over 30 million homes in the FOX regional footprint and the CSS package will be available in more than 10 million homes.
Alabama opens the season on the road on Friday, Aug. 30, when the team travels to the West Point, N.Y., to compete in the Black Knights Invitational hosted by Army. The Tide opens the tournament against Seton Hall on Friday, before battling Washington State and Army on Saturday.
UA fans will have the opportunity to enjoy 19 women's volleyball matches in Foster Auditorium this season, including the nine matches of the Hampton Inn Bama Bash which features UT-Martin, South Alabama, Nicholls State and Arkansas State. The Tide will play 14 home matches and open SEC play at home against Kentucky on Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. CT. The final home weekend of the season has the Tide hosting Mississippi on Nov. 22 and Tennessee on Nov. 24.
