TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama third-year head women's volleyball coach Ed Allen announced the schedule for the 2013 season on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide will play a schedule that includes 33 overall matches, 18 during Southeastern Conference play, 14 at home and 13 in four mid-season tournaments.
Alabama will play a total of 15 non-conference matches in 2013, with 14 of those matches coming before the start of SEC play on Sept. 29. "We are excited to begin yet another year in building the program here at Alabama," Allen said. "We believe that our pre-season schedule will challenge us to be the team we are capable of being as we enter SEC play."
The Tide opens the season with a pair of tournaments, the first at West Point in the Black Knights Invitational hosted by Army on August 30-31. Following the trip to New York, Alabama will spend the second week of the season in Miami, Fla., for a tournament hosted by Florida International.
"This schedule will challenge our team, while giving our student-athletes some terrific educational experiences," Allen said. "We will open the 2013 season at West Point, which we believe will be a terrific opportunity for our athletes to learn more about the history and operations of this academy."
In the Black Knights Invitational, the Tide will face Seton Hall, Washington State and Army and open the season against the Pirates on August 30, at 11 a.m. CST. Bama will play Washington State on Aug. 31, at 11 a.m., before closing the event against Army later that day at 6 p.m. For week two, Alabama will face Houston Baptist, Florida International and UNC Wilmington, respectively, in the Florida International Tournament.

In addition to the Tide and Nicholls State, this year's tournament at Foster Auditorium will feature UT-Martin, Arkansas State and South Alabama. The tournament will consist of nine matches played over two days, starting Sept. 13, when UT-Martin and South Alabama square off at 9 a.m. The final game of the event will feature the Tide and UT-Martin on Sept. 14, at 7 p.m.
Following four home matches in two days, Alabama returns to the road for three matches in the Clemson Classic on Sept. 20-21. The Tide opens the tournament on Friday, Sept. 20, against Clemson, before playing Delaware and Troy on Sept. 21.
