ATHENS, GA. – The Alabama women’s volleyball team suffered a tough five set Southeastern Conference road loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday night from Ramsey Student Center. With the 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-21, 12-15) loss, Alabama falls to 12-3 overall and 1-2 in SEC play. The Bulldogs improve to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

As a team, the Crimson Tide had a .230 hitting percentage while the Bulldogs finished the night with a .237 hitting mark. The two teams combined for 22 blocks, with Alabama notching 10 and the Bulldogs totaling 12.

Alabama’s Kayla Fitterer had a match and season-high 23 kills, as she committed just two errors on 59 swings. Andrea McQuaid added 11 kills and Sierra Wilson had a season-high six kills to go along with 43 assists and a team-high 15 digs for her second career double-double. Cristina Arenas and Kryssi Daniels added 13 and 12 digs respectively.

For the Bulldogs, Brittany Northcutt led the way with 15 kills and 17 digs, while Lauren Teknipp and Briana Bahr added 14 kills each. Allison Summers led all players in the match with 25 digs

Alabama dropped the opening set 18-25 after committing 13 errors in the first frame. UA had five serving errors, five reception errors, and had a .171 hitting percentage with three hitting errors. After the slow start, Alabama won the second set, 25-18, behind a .382 hitting percentage, as the Tide has just one hitting error. Fitterer had five kills and McQuaid had three in the set.

After Georgia took a 2-1 lead with a 25-16 third set win, Alabama got even by winning the fourth set 25-21.

With the score tied at 2-2, the score was tied at 3-3 in the fifth before the Bulldogs built an 8-6 lead when the teams switched sides. After Georgia held an 11-8 lead, the Tide got a pair of kills by Fitterer to get within one (11-10). After a kill by Fitterer cut the bulldogs lead to 13-12, a block by UGA and a kill by Bahr ended the match.

Alabama completes the two-match SEC road trip on Sunday at Auburn. The match between the Crimson Tide and the Tigers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT from the Auburn Arena.
