TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Two Alabama freshmen on the women's track and field team will be competing June 26-27at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Championships will take place Hayward Field, site of the `72, `76, `80, and the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Eugene, Ore. has long been dubbed "Track Town, USA" for its rich track and field history and the community's overwhelming appreciation of the sport.

The 2009 U.S. Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships will serve as the selection meet for the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, which will be held at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad on July 31-August 2. The top two finishers in each event will qualify to compete in these Championships.

Audra Frimpong, a native of Canfield, Ohio, is entered in the 100m hurdles with the first round set for a 2:40 p.m. start on Friday. If Frimpong advances to the finals, she will toe the line later Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

Frimpong, ranking second fastest among the 21 competitors, brings a personal best time of 13.56 into the Championships. The freshman posted that mark twice this season at the SEC Championships as well as the Mideast Region Championships.

Frimpong earned two All-Mideast Region honors in 2009 by finishing seventh (13.60) in the 100m hurdles and fourth (45.21) in the 4x100m relay at the Mideast Regional.

Krystle Schade, a native of Sunrise, Fla., will be competing in the high jump which is slated for a 3:50 p.m. start on Saturday.

Schade brings the No. 1 mark of 6-0 into the Championships and will compete against nine other ladies in the high jump. Schade cleared 6-0 at the Ole Miss Invitational earlier this season. She earned All-Mideast Region honors by placing fourth after a jump-off with a clearance of 5-9 1/4 and went on to finish 11th at the NCAA Championships clearing a height of 5-10 3/4.

"The number one thing is that both are great examples of where the program is headed in regards to going to national championships," head coach Sandy Fowler said. "Both are seeded high with Krystle at no. 1 and Audra at no. 2 so I see them both advancing and doing real well."

The USATF Junior Track and Field Championships will be broadcast on ESPN June 26, 8-10 p.m., June 27, 7:30-9:30 p.m. and June 28, 4-6 p.m. All times are eastern.
