TUSCALOOSA, ALA -- Day one of the Alabama Relays being held here at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium this weekend is in the books, with half the multi events finished.

Alabama’s Kendall Clifford won the 100-meter hurdles, the first event of the heptathlon, posting a 14.95. She was the only athlete on the day to go under 15 seconds in the hurdles. Clifford, a sophomore, was sixth in the 200m dash and shot put and seventh in the high jump.

UAB’s Judy Shepard currently leads heptathlon with 2,848 points while Clifford sits in fifth with 2,560 points.

Sophomore Casey Strickland from the University of the South leads the decathlon after five events with 3,494 points, just ahead of Arkansas State’s Craig Robinson, a sophomore, who sports 3,359 points.

The heptathlon concludes tomorrow with the long jump, javelin and 800m. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. The decathlon still has the 110m hurdles, pole vault, discus, javelin and 1500m to go. It gets back underway at 9 a.m.

Also running tomorrow will be the 10,000m. The women get underway at 4 p.m. while the men hear the gun at 4:40 p.m.
