The Alabama women’s track and field team had a strong overall showing this weekend at the Clemson Invitational, finaling in the sprints, hurdles, distance and field events.
In the 60m dash, junior Beau Walker ran a season best 7.53 in the prelims, finishing in eighth place with a 7.62 in the finals. Walker took first in both the prelims and finals of the 60m hurdles, running a meet best 8.35 during prelims. Walker also finaled in the 400m dash, taking eighth with a time of 55.89. Senior Tasha Pharr ran a season best 8.58 in the finals of the 60m hurdles to take fourth place. Pharr’s 8.53 in the prelims was a season best.
Sophomores Julia Hicks and Elizabeth Wancowicz took second and third respectively in the mile. Hicks posted a 4:58.16 while Wancowicz shaved more than a second and half off her career best time, crossing the finish line at 5:03.84. Sophomore Megan Carnes took eighth in the 3000m run, turning in a 10:34.16.
The distance medley relay of sophomore Jessica Colvin, Hicks and seniors Virnetta Greene and Christy Fairley ran a 11:57.29, good for third place.
Junior Tahesia Harrigan took fourth in the long jump with a 5.91-meter effort while junior Kou Luogon was seventh in the triple jump with an 11.65m leap. Junior Beth Mallory was fifth in the weight throw with an 18.99m effort.
Alabama has next weekend off from competition and then returns to action Feb. 4-5 at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
