Dec. 7, 2013

MUNCIE, Ind. - Max Norris, who served as the assistant women's tennis coach for the 2012-13 season, was named head coach at Ball State University by director of athletics Bill Scholl.

"We are thrilled for Max's opportunity to lead the Ball State University women's tennis program," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "Max is both excited and ready for this challenge. He's prepared to take the Cardinals to the next level."

Norris previously worked at Ball State, serving as a student manager and volunteer assistant on the men's side from 2008-10.

In his one season in Tuscaloosa, Norris helped the Crimson Tide to its best finish in program history, as Alabama advanced to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. Additionally, he was instrumental in helping develop the Tide's first NCAA singles and doubles semifinalists in Alexa Guarachi and Mary Anne Daines. The duo also earned ITA All-America honors as well as a spot on the ITA All-Star Team for doubles.

"Max did an excellent job at Alabama and made a positive difference in our program," added Mainz. "His passion for tennis, gift of teaching and enthusiasm for Alabama was infectious."
