TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
Women's tennis head coach Jenny Mainz announced the signing of Natalia Maynetto on Thursday. Maynetto will join the Crimson Tide in 2012.
"We're thrilled to have Natalia Maynetto join our Alabama Family," said Mainz. "Natalia will assuredly make an immediate impact in our program. She has had a prosperous junior career, but I feel she will truly flourish in her collegiate pursuit."
Maynetto, who was born in Santiago, Chile, but later moved to the United States, is a Blue Chip recruit ranked 17th in her class, according to TennisRecruiting.net. She competed in the U.S. Open Junior Qualifier, beating the draw's No. 2. seed. Maynetto was ranked No. 1 in Florida in 16s and won the 18s Florida Open Championship in doubles. She has had success overseas as well, winning an ITF tournament in Chile. She competed one season for Barron Collier High School, playing at the No. 1 position as a freshman.
Maynetto has been a member of the Honor Roll throughout high school and has also spent time in the community volunteering for Maria's Birthday Wishes for the Homeless, which provides cupcakes to the homeless every month for their birthday.
"Natalia is fun-spirited and has a magnetic personality, while being a fierce competitor on court," added Mainz. "One of her greatest attributes is her tenacity and competitive fire. Natalia is a fighter on the court and finds ways to get things done even on difficult days. She plays with a lot of passion and has a definite spark. She's eager to make an impression at Alabama."
