TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Head coach Jenny Mainz has announced the signing of Emily Zabor, who will join the Crimson Tide women's tennis team in the fall of 2011.
"Emily Zabor is assuredly going to make a positive impact in our Alabama program," Mainz stated. "She acquires the talent, work ethic and leadership we need at Alabama. I'm impressed with the way she competes. She's tenacious, energetic and diligent on court. Emily has an awesome disposition as she has a contagious spirit and is enthusiastic about competing."
Zabor, a native of Atlanta, has been the No. 1 singles for Walton High School for the last two years. She has won three state championships and was named the county Player of the Year last season. Walton High has been a girls' tennis powerhouse in the state of Georgia, winning 133 consecutive dual matches and seven consecutive AAAAA state championships.
In junior competition, Zabor claimed the 2010 Peach State Championship and the 2010 National Open Doubles Title. She trains at the Olde Towne Athletic Club under Jerry Baskin. She is also coached by her father, Rick Zabor, who played collegiate tennis at Michigan State.
"Emily is eager to make her imprint at the Capstone," Mainz added. "She's a forward-thinker who is already outlining her plan for her arrival in fall 2011. She's intent on being an integral part of driving this program to an SEC Championship."
