Alabama’s all-time winningest doubles team of Robin Stephenson and Ashley Bentley remained alive Saturday at the ITA Southern Regional Championships and advanced to Sunday’s semifinals.
The duo knocked off Georgia’s Kelley Hyndman and Link Leskosky on their home court, 8-3. Stephenson and Bentley now need two wins to clinch an automatic berth into the ITA National Indoor Championships.
But doubles wasn’t the only action they played in Saturday. Both Stephenson and Bentley advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw before being eliminated. Bentley defeated Tarryn Ruddman in three sets in the quarterfinals. She fought back to win the final two sets after dropping the first, but then fell to Kristi Miller in the semis.
Stephenson won easily, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals over Miami’s Patricia Starzyck before losing to Florida’s Diana Srebrovic in straight sets. For Stephenson, this is the second straight year she has advanced to the semifinals.
