TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The Crimson Tide women's tennis team will start off the 2012-2013 season by heading to Cary, N.C., for the Duke Fab Four Invite. The matches will start on Friday and conclude on Sunday.
"We really want to set the tone early with this first tournament," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "Our goal is to be competitive and compete with a lot of tenacity. Because it's the first tournament, you are establishing yourself. The expectations are certainly high, based on how we finished last year, but last season is last season."
The four players representing Alabama this weekend are junior Mary Anne Macfarlane, sophomore Emily Zabor and freshmen Maya Jansen and Natalia Maynetto. Joining the Tide and host Blue Devils, will be Furman, Illinois, Miami, Mississippi, North Carolina, Purdue, Texas, Texas A&M, William & Mary and Yale.
The Tide will get started Friday morning with the doubles matches, with Macfarlane and Jansen paired up against Julia Jones and Erin Stephens from Mississippi, while Zabor and Maynetto are set to face Caroline Rohde-Moe and Marija Milutinovic, also representing the Rebels. In singles, Macfarlane will be facing Anik Cepeda of William and Mary, and, in the same draw, Zabor will face Marianne Jodoine of Duke. Maynetto is matched up against Mary Clayton of Duke, and Jansen is set to face Ester Goldfield of Duke.
