TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's tennis team is well represented in the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings with four individuals making the cut in singles along with one of its teams making the doubles list. In singles, senior Mary Anne Daines comes in at No. 28, followed by sophomores Natalia Maynetto and Maya Jansen at No. 94 and 96, respectively. Freshman Erin Routliffe came in at No. 8 on the newcomer singles list, while she and Daines rank No. 16 together in doubles.
Daines, née Macfarlane, has been the Crimson Tide's No. 1 player of the past three seasons and was an All-American in singles in 2012 and an All-American in doubles in 2013. Most recently, Daines and former partner Alexa Guarachi were named to the prestigious ITA All-Star Team for finishing in the top three in the nation last season.
Maynetto was a huge part of Alabama's success last year, locking down the No. 6 singles spot. As a freshman, she went 29-8 overall in singles, highlighted by a 10-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play. For her efforts, Maynetto was one of only six in the league to be named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Jansen, the 2013 ITA Southern Region Player to Watch, ranked as high as No. 59 in the nation during her freshman campaign, playing primarily at No. 3. She compiled a 24-15 overall mark in singles, including a 15-8 record in dual match play.
Routliffe competed in all four junior grand slams and was a quarterfinalist in doubles at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2012. She was the U18 Canadian National Doubles winner as well as the U16 Canadian National Singles and Doubles champion. Routliffe ranked as high as No. 2 nationally in Canada, No. 17 in the junior ITF rankings and No. 591 in the WTA international rankings.
