TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Natalia Maynetto
won four matches in three days, all of which came in straight sets, to win the singles title at the ITA Summer Circuit tournament being hosted at Florida State University.
Maynetto, seeded third, had a bye in the round of 32 before taking on Penn State's Taylor Shukow on Sunday in the round of 16. Maynetto cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over her Nittany Lion opponent and then posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Blair Martin of Furman in the quarterfinals. The semifinals pinned Maynetto against No. 2 seed Ashley Bongart. Once again, Maynetto would come out on top, winning 6-3, 6-2, which earned her a spot in the finals against top-seeded Caroline Brinson of Georgia where Maynetto came away with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of nine regional circuits (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Texas, Northern California and Southern California) consisting of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Indiana in August.
