Alabama Women?s Tennis Hosts Auburn in Final Home Contest



TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The No. 72 University of Alabama women’s tennis team hosts in-state rival No. 37 Auburn in its final home contest of the season Saturday at noon at the UA Varsity Courts.

Alabama will honor senior Mari Muller for her contributions as a member of the Crimson Tide before the start of the match.

“This weekend is a special time for our team as we are celebrating Senior Day, honoring Mari Muller, and Parent’s and Family weekend;” said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz.  We are recognizing Mari Muller and her vast contributions to the Capstone.  Mari will go down in Alabama history as one of the most improved players we have had in our program and a ??clutch’ competitor.”

 “We are looking forward to a battle with the Auburn Tigers.  The team realizes this weekend presents a considerable opportunity and I am expecting them to bring their best.”

Alabama (5-14, 1-9 SEC) ends the regular season with an always heated match with in-state foe Auburn.  The No. 1 doubles tandem of Mari Muller and Andrea Brenes head into the match with two wins in the previous three matches.  The duo is  2-0 against ranked opponents in their last three matches and they defeated No. 42 Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg of LSU last weekend.

Auburn (10-8, 4-6 SEC) split a pair of SEC matches last weekend, defeating Arkansas before losing to LSU.  Auburn is represented by three Tigers in the rankings, led by Alex Haney and Melissa Koning at No. 14 in the doubles rankings.

Alabama leads the all-time series with Auburn 22-15 and has taken the last three contests.
