BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Erin Routliffe
was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week for women's tennis, which was announced by the league office on Wednesday. It is the second weekly honor of the season for the Caledon, Ontario, native, who also won the award on March 26, after the Crimson Tide's wins over South Carolina and No. 5 Florida.
"Erin has steadily improved this season," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "She has continued to rise in pivotal situations and has been an integral part of our successes."
Routliffe won all four matches she played in last weekend to help Alabama finish with a 10-0 regular-season record at home after wins over No. 10 Texas A&M and Missouri. She took both of her singles matches in straight sets, finishing first against the Aggies and second versus the Tigers. Playing with a new doubles partner in Luicelena Perez, Routliffe and Perez won both matches by 8-3 decisions, aiding the Tide in winning both doubles points. She currently leads Alabama with 14 singles wins in dual-match play, including an 8-1 mark against SEC opponents.
"It's been fun watching Erin mature and get acclimated to the SEC," added Mainz. "She enjoys the challenge and has responded well."
