TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The eighth-ranked Alabama women's tennis team (12-2, 4-0 SEC) travels to Auburn on Friday to take on the No. 21 Tigers (14-2, 4-0 SEC) at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Matches will begin at 5 p.m. CT.
The Crimson Tide has defeated its Southeastern Conference foes by a combined score of 16-0 thus far, for the first time in the program's history. Furthermore, none of the singles matches have yet to reach a third set.
The Tide is coming off wins at LSU and Arkansas last weekend and will play its third-straight road match on Friday. Erin Routliffe had a standout weekend for Alabama, winning both of her doubles matches with Maya Jansen at the No. 1 position, as well as both of her singles matches, both coming in straight sets.
Alabama currently has four women ranked in singles, with Mary Anne Daines at No. 58, Routliffe at No. 59, Jansen at No. 64 and Danielle Spielmann at No. 113. The Tide also has four duos ranked in doubles. Routliffe and Jansen are No. 8 in the country, Emily Zabor and Luicelena Perez are at No. 44, Routliffe and Spielmann are at No. 59 and Spielmann and Daines are ranked No. 70.
Auburn also enters Friday's showdown unbeaten in SEC play after posting 4-3 wins at Arkansas and LSU last weekend. Pleun Burgmans leads the Tigers at the top of the lineup in singles, while she and partner Emily Flickinger are 11-0 thus far at No. 1 doubles. Auburn currently has two singles players nationally ranked with Burgmans at No. 33 and Flickinger at No. 101. The Tigers also have two teams ranked in doubles with No. 12 Flickinger and Burgmans, as well as No. 46 Michala Kucharova and Reka Muller.
Alabama leads the series with Auburn 31-24 and has won the last five matches against the Tigers.
